Trumpf Invests In Global Customer Service

Over the next two years, Trumpf will be investing €35 million (US$53.4 million) in a new logistics centre at its headquarters in Ditzingen, to continue to offer customers around the world fast availability of spare parts.

Currently, the existing central warehouse is reaching its capacity limits. Excavation work started in September, and the shell is due to be constructed from November 2015. The new building, planned by Barkow Leibinger Architects, Berlin, will be ready for occupation in early 2017.

The new logistics centre, 18 m high, covering an area of 13,000 sq m will be equipped with modern storage and order-picking technology. Implementation processes and IT systems are currently being completely rescheduled. The focus here is on the speed of the entire process, flexibility when dealing with peaks in demand, and reliability of order processing.

With more than 30,000 materials in stock and over 1,000 consignments daily, the central warehouse in Ditzingen is the linchpin of the Trumpf global logistics network. The majority of shipments reach customers the following morning. Over 100 employees ensure the availability of materials, collate the different items, and organise safe transportation. The number of jobs in the new logistics centre will remain roughly constant. After the move, the premises occupied until now by the central warehouse will be used by the Trumpf Training Centre.
