ABB has won a US$28 million order from PowerGrid Corporation Of India Limited, to augment three Indian substations—Vadodara, Manesar and Malerkotla—and help meet growing demands for electricity.

In Vadodara and Manesar, the company will help to extend the current 765/400 kilovolt (kV) Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substations, and in Malerkotla they will serve to upgrade the current air-insulated switchgear to GIS. The GIS will aid in minimising footprint, lifecycle costs and environmental impact.

Oleg Aleinikov, head of the company’s substations business, noted that the company has been growing in India for over several decades already, and commented that it next aims to expand in growing markets and support infrastructure development.

The company will be supplying transformers, GIS bays, a reactor and other associated equipment including Power Line Carrier Communication, control and relay protection, and augmentation of the substation automation system. The company will be responsible for the design, engineering, installation and commissioning of the substations.
