Management Changes For US Steel Corp Featured

The United States Steel Corporation has announced two management changes at its European and North American operating facilities. Scott Buckiso, former general manager at Mon Valley Works, will succeed George Babcoke as Vice President of European Solutions and President of US Steel Kosice. In Buckiso’s place will now be Amy Smith-Yoder. Changes will be effective from 31 May, 2015.

Buckiso will take up executive responsibility for the company’s operations in the Slovak Republic, using his previous experiences beginning as a management associate at Mon Valley Works’ Irvin Plant in 1990 to a general manager of finishing at the former US Steel Serbia.

Smith-Yoder, as general manager, will be responsible for overseeing operations at all four facilities that make up Mon Valley Works: Clairton Plant, Edgar Thomson Plant, Irvin Plant and Fairless Plant. Smith-Yoder joined the company in 2001 as a senior quality assurance engineer at Straightline, the company’s former steel distribution subsidiary.

The company remains affected by weak steel market fundamentals, such as the surging steel imports. In addition to the oversupply in the industry, pressurising prices and prospects of steel producers, the company is aggressively pursuing actions to improve its cost structure and boost revenues on a sustainable basis through its “Carnegie Way” programme.
