This marks the second consecutive year that the company has been recognised for this by Frost & Sullivan. Equinix has continued to exhibit growth by building and maintaining green data centres across the Asia Pacific region, and the company has deployed some of the most innovation and finest ‘green’ technologies that meet energy efficiency requirements, shared Adwaith Visveswaran, senior research analyst, Asia Pacific Energy & Environment Practice, Frost & Sullivan.
“With its unflinching desire towards reducing the density of power consumption and carbon footprint, Equinix has demonstrated the true characteristics of a market leader,” he said.
The company ensures that each of its data centres use technology and techniques that reduce its environmental impact, such as adaptive control systems that reduce power consumption and increase cooling capacity through active airflow management, or motion-activated lighting sensors coupled with energy-efficient LED systems to reduce energy consumption.
In addition, the company’s data centres in Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo have earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certifications by the US Green Building Council, that recognises performance in energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emission reductions, stewardship of resources and sensitivity to its impact on the environment. Other data centres such as one in Singapore and another in Hong Kong are pending gold certification.
Embracing green IT and renewable energy has become an important topic of discussion in boardrooms today, shared Samuel Lee, president, Equinix Asia-Pacific. “We constantly evaluate the energy efficiency of our data centres and are quick to adopt proven energy-saving technologies and techniques on a global scale. This award not only validates this approach, but also reinforces our commitment to putting all of our data centres on an aggressive path for efficiency improvements.”
