3D Systems: Scan-Based Design & Inspection

  • Wednesday, 26 November 2014 02:10

3D Systems has released the Capture Mini scan-based design and inspection system — a smaller, more accurate version of its previously released Geomagic Capture system.

With a choice of 3DS’ Geomagic software products included, the system is said to be an economical, accurate and easy-to-use turnkey solution for scanning, designing and inspecting small objects. The developer says it is suitable for industries such as manufacturing, product design, mechanical, jewellery and dental appliances.

According to the manufacturer, the system uses a blue LED structured-light scanning technology to bring real objects into a variety of CAD packages, allowing designers and engineers the freedom to create new designs based on existing objects. On the inspection side, it provides quality assurance engineers the valuable ability to scan a part on their desktop and check its quality against CAD designs, therefore intercepting design flaws and manufacturing challenges early in the process.
