The additive manufacturing (AM) wave continues to prove unstoppable even with the less than ideal economic climate.

Siemens recently announced an investment, US$23.98 million, into a new additive manufacturing facility in Finspang, Sweden.

According to Siemens, the new facility will be used for prototyping, repair of the company’s industrial gas turbine components. The rise of AM has been a reassuring constant in a period of turmoil, with heavyweights such as Rolls Royce and Boeing embracing the new technology.

“Siemens is at the forefront in Sweden and the world of additive manufacturing in the development and production of advanced components.” Said Hans Holmstrom, CEO of Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery. “This is a step in a long-term investment in this area, we have not yet seen all the possibilities.”
