General Motors has announced their US$1.4 billion investment plan to upgrade their Arlington Assembly Plant with a range of improvements to produce high-quality full-size SUVs.

With the investment, the plant will be reconfigured to include a new paint shop, body shop and general assembly area. Construction is slated to complete within three years.

The investment is centred on improving for the customers, and the scale of investment reflects the company’s commitment to provide customers with better service and vehicles, said Cathy Clegg, vice president of GM North America Manufacturing and Labour relations.

This investment is part of the $5.4 billion that the company had previously announced it would invest in US manufacturing over the next three years. To date, approximately $4.5 billion of this has already been set aside for various plans, leaving about $900 million to be announced by the end of the year.
