This stunning course is probably one of the most scenic in the region and hosted the recent Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. Occupying a cliff top setting on a peninsula which juts out into the South China Sea, it has some spectacular seaside holes. The Ocean Nine with its four opening holes has been described as the ‘most thrilling opening stretch in Chinese golf’. The par-four third demands a tee shot over the ocean before your second shot should land on the green. With the strong winds circling around the first nine, club selection and accuracy off the tee on the front nine is absolutely crucial. The back nine (the Highland), while still providing amazing views, is built over hillier terrain and more sheltered. The par-5 18th is a spectacular finishing hole with a tee shot required over a ravine from all tee boxes. Do take plenty of golf balls due to the water hazards and the thick rough and jungle which line the fairways.

The Hong Kong Golf Club
Venue of the Hong Kong Open in Fanling, New Territories, this private members club was founded in 1889 by a group of golfing enthusiasts in Happy Valley. It now has three courses in Fanling (Old, New and Eden) in addition to a nine-hole course at Deep Water Bay. In Fanling, the Old Course was finished in 1911; the New course was completed in 1931 while the Eden was built in 1970. The Old Course’s first hole, a par-4 - is called The Meadow and you need a well placed tee shot to the right side of the fairway to set up your second shot. It’s not a long hole but be aware of a ditch running front of the green which punishes any short approach shots. Its par-3 seventh (The Bog) has a small elevated green which can prove a hard target to hit. Surrounded by bunkers, the green is flat with only gentle breaks. On the New Course, the par-4 ninth (The Ridge) is a gentle dogleg left hole. The tee shot is blind requiring a drive to the right half of the fairway. There is water on the left catching any wayward shots. The par-3 13th (Short Hole) has water on the left. The ideal shot is to the centre of the green and to avoid the tricky pot bunker on the right. There are subtle breaks on the green. On the Eden layout, the par-4 eighth (Temptation) is a short dogleg left to right which can be played two ways – lay up from the tee towards the left hand bunker which will leave you a short approach shot, or you can try to cut the corner and go for the green if you are a big hitter.

The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course
Located along the rugged coastline of Kau Sai Chau within the scenic port shelter area, the three public 18-hole golf courses have been built in a 250-hectare area; the North and South Courses were designed by Gary Player, while the East Course had the benefit of Nelson and Haworth golf architects. All three offer challenging golf in a spectacular setting with sweeping views of Sai Kung and the South China Sea. They are some of the most picturesque golf courses in Asia and the club has become an environmental sanctuary. Golfers share its 250 hectares with eagles, egrets, and pond herons, as well as the occasional barking deer. The Golf Course has been recognized for its efforts in environmental stewardship through certification as a ‘Certified Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary for Wildlife’.
The South Course, featuring an electric golf cart service, is a friendlier course. With its undulating fairways and foreseeable greens all handicap players are assured a pleasurable game of golf. The North Course is a walking course and provides an exciting round of golf for experienced handicap players. The Course is magnificently sea-framed by the South China Sea and has some wonderfully challenging holes which will entice you to return again and again. The East Course is an electric cart course and is undoubtedly the most spectacular of the three courses with sweeping views out to the South China Sea available from each of its eighteen holes.
Facilities include driving range, short game practice area, pro-shop and catering facilities.

The Macau Golf & Country Club
This course is absolutely gorgeous with its layout and sweeping views of the South China Sea. The club has been meticulously planned to combine a resort ambience with an 18-hole championship golf course, superb amenities, first class international management, attentive service, excellent food and sports, and a vast array of activities which are specially focussed on golf tournaments and tuition. The holes are both memorable and well designed, with narrow, undulating fairways and well protected greens. Multiple varieties of trees, shrubs and natural vegetation add seasonal color to the verdant splendor of the golf course, offering a great experience for every golfer regardless of one’s score.
The par-3 sixth has been re-designed and is set to become the club’s signature hole with its island green. Strategically placed bunkers frame the putting suface and are well-positioned to save mis-directed tee shot from ending up in the water. Club selection is key here as the wind swirls around and can be deceptive. The par-3 17th is quite spectacular with its elevated tee box above a big green surrounded by cliffs and scrub land to the right and the South China Sea to the left. Anyhing other than the perfect tee shot will result in disaster.
MGCC is a private members club however unaccompanied guests are very welcome but may only play by prior arrangement.
Facilities include pro-shop, driving range, member’s bar and golfer’s grill, swimming pool, tennis court, sauna, steam room and seaview terrace.
