Latrobe, US: Kennametal has been named for the fourth consecutive year among the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute. The designation recognises organisations that lead in the standards and practices of ethical business conduct by cultivating a culture of ethics and transparency at every level, and performing to the highest standards. The cutting tool producer is one of only four companies in the machine tools and accessories category honoured this year.

Turkey: Kennametal has opened a Rapid Response Centre in Istanbul, Turkey.  Adding to similar facilities all around the world, the centre is an essential part of the company’s commitment in providing global expertise locally and with quick turnaround.

“Rapid Response Centers are the expression of a major ongoing effort in Kennametal listening to the voice of the customer,” describes Jan Menschner, the company’s manager for global reconditioning services. “Key concerns are local presence, immediate responsiveness, and fast turnaround. This is particularly important in markets where the commercial infrastructure is still developing.”

The centres can be contacted by phone, email, or online. Once requests are received, quotes will be turned around within 24 hours. For manufacturing simple specials, tool orders are often delivered within 10 days or less. The company adds that the response centre concept is an evolving one and future iterations may include customer showrooms, training resources, or even machine tools for demonstrations or small test trials.

Kennametal and Haimer have developed the modular interface Duo-Lock for carbide cutting tool heads. The companies are combining their toolholding and carbide knowledge to provide solutions for milling applications with the modular system.

Kennametal Extrude Hone has completed its relocation to Holzguenz, Germany, after a year of planning and construction. The inauguration of the facility took place on May 6, 2014.

This relocation is consistent with the company's strategy to increase efficiency and better serve its customers.

"The new site combines all functions of the previous locations, including machine technology for the areas of AFM (Abrasive Flow Machining), ECM (Electro Chemical Machining), PECM (Precise Electro Chemical Machining) and TEM (Thermal Energy Method - Thermal deburring), sales, finance and administration," says Urs Hirsiger, MD of Kennametal Extrude Hone Global, a subsidiary of Kennametal.
